John Joseph Macklin

John Joseph Macklin (born October 9, 1947 , † August 2014 ) was a British Romanist and Hispanist .

life and work

Macklin graduated from Queen's University Belfast . He received his PhD in 1976 with the thesis Tradition and Innovation. Narrative Technique in the Novels of Ramón Pérez de Ayala and went to the University of Hull as a lecturer .

From 1987 to 2001 he worked at the University of Leeds , first as Cowdray Professor and Head of the Spanish and Portuguese Department, then as Dean and Vice Rector.

From 2001 to 2005 he was Rector of the University of Paisley , which later took the name University of the West of Scotland . From 2005 to 2010 Macklin was Professor of Spanish in Glasgow at the University of Strathclyde , and from 2010 to his retirement in 2013 at the University of Glasgow . From 2007 he was visiting professor at the University of Ulster .

Macklin was Commander in the Orden de Isabel la Católica (1994).
