John Kincade

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Kincade (born June 25, 1946 in Southport , Merseyside , England , actually John Knowles ) is a British singer . In the 1970s, Kincade was a well-known pop singer.

Live and act

In the 1960s he started as a pop singer in London. During a tour through Spain , where he appeared for a local hotel chain in tourist resorts, an employee of the then successful record label “Penny Farthing” noticed him.

The hit single Dreams Are Ten a Penny (DE place 2), published under the name "Kincade" in November 1972, was not sung by Knowles contrary to popular opinion, although he is shown on the cover of the single. "Kincade" was a studio project conceived by the singer, songwriter and producer John Carter , Dreams Are Ten A Penny was sung by John Carter himself. When the song became a hit in Europe , the team, which also included producer Larry Page, was just looking for a mime for stage and television appearances. However, since Knowles was aiming for a career as a singer and wanted to sing his songs himself, he declined the offer. The musicians Paul and Nigel Griggs and Rick Williams, who were under contract as "Octopus" at Penny Farthing, finally took over the job for all the singles released under the name "Kincade" . Knowles recorded as John Kincade a self-sung, German version entitled Jenny, Jenny (Dreams Are Ten a Penny) , with which he took first place in Dieter Thomas Heck's ZDF hit parade .

Larry Page and John Carter also produced a number of similar-sounding hits for John Kincade from August 1973, including a version of the Kalin Twins song When , which, like the records of the "group" Kincade, were distributed in Germany by Bellaphon . In view of his success in Germany, John Kincade moved his residence there. In 1976 Knowles withdrew completely from the music business and went to Sweden. There he runs a school for pop singing.

With the "Seventies Revival" that began in the early 1990s, John Kincade, who now lives in Sweden, came back to Germany and was able to reissue some old hits. The original English version of Dreams Are Ten a Penny is now part of his repertoire at oldie events .
