John Kipkurgat

John Kipkurgat (born March 16, 1944 ) is a former Kenyan middle-distance runner .

Kipkurgat became famous for his victory in the 800-meter run of the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974, where he defeated his compatriot Mike Boit and the New Zealander John Walker . He just missed the world record of the Italian Marcello Fiasconaro (1: 43.7 minutes) with a time of 1: 43.91 minutes. A year earlier, Kipkurgat had finished second over the same distance at the Pan-African Games in Lagos .
