John Liu Shi-gong

John Liu Shi-gong ( Chinese  劉世 功 ) (born August 28, 1928 in the Siziwang banner , Inner Mongolia ; † June 9, 2017 ) was a Chinese clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Jining .

Life

John Liu Shi-gong entered the boys' seminary in Baotou in 1942 and then from 1949 attended the seminary in Hohhot . He received on 15 August 1956, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Until the start of the state terrorist cultural revolution , he worked as a priest in his home region. From 1966 to 1976 all religious activity was stopped by the cultural revolution and he was active in agriculture, forced through retraining in labor camps.

In 1989 he was elected Bishop of Jining. He was confirmed by the Holy See as a candidate for the office of bishop and was also accepted by the Chinese government. He was ordained bishop on October 20, 1995 .
