John M. McConnell (2007)

John Michael McConnell (born July 26, 1943 in Greenville , South Carolina ) is a former American Vice Admiral (service: 1967-1996) and a senior US government official. He was sworn in as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) by President George W. Bush on February 13, 2007 and took office on February 20. From May 22, 1992 to February 22, 1996 he was the director of the National Security Agency (NSA).

Life

McConnell grew up in South Carolina and studied at North Greenville Junior College , public administration at George Washington University , global communications at National Defense University , strategic intelligence at National Defense Intelligence College, and economics at Furman University .
