Admiral Michael S. "Mike" Rogers (born in Chicago , Illinois on October 31, 1959 ) is an American naval officer and government official. He is an admiral in the United States Navy and was Director of the US National Security Agency (NSA), Chief of the Central Security Service (CSS) and Commander of the United States Cyber ​​Command (USCYBERCOM) from April 3, 2014 to May 4, 2018 . career

Rogers is from Chicago and graduated from high school in 1977 . After studying at Auburn University , he joined the US Navy in 1981. Originally active in the marine area of ​​"surface warfare", he was posted in 1986 to the area of cryptology , now known as information warfare . He served on US warships and submarines in the Atlantic, Baltic, Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and the Caribbean. Rogers served as the Joint Chiefs of Staff intelligence coordinator before being named Chief of Fleet Cyber ​​Command in 2011. The US Tenth Fleet under his command provided the US Navy with capabilities for cyber warfare .

Rogers, who had previously been viewed as a promising candidate to succeed General Keith Alexanders , was proposed by US President Barack Obama as director of the NSA intelligence service and commander of the United States Cyber ​​Command in January 2014 and took up these offices in April 2014 .

In November 2016, Rogers met with President-elect Donald Trump , who was considering him for the position of director of national intelligence . Just a few weeks earlier, the United States Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and the outgoing US intelligence coordinator Jim Clapper had proposed that Rogers be replaced as head of both agencies in connection with a planned separation of NSA and USCYBERCOM.

On May 4, 2018, Rogers was released from the positions of NSA, CSS and USCYBERCOM in a handover ceremony of USCYBERCOM and handed over the command to his successor Paul Nakasone . At the ceremony, he announced that he would officially retire from active service in the United States Navy on June 1, 2018.
