John Edward Monnette (born February 16, 1982 ) is a professional American poker player . He is nicknamed Angry John and three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Poker career

Career

Monnette played online under the nickname jmonnett from August 2006 to March 2011 . During this time he won prize money of around US $ 215,000 with tournament poker . Monnette has been taking part in renowned live tournaments since 2004 .

Monnette won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the first time in June 2005 and made it into the money in two tournaments. In mid-October 2006, he won an event at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles with a prize of $ 109,000. At the 2009 WSOP , Monnette reached two final tables and earned a total of almost $ 250,000 in prize money. In mid-June 2011, he won an 8-game mixed variant of the WSOP 2011 tournament and secured a bracelet and a prize of almost $ 280,000. The following year Monnette won a tournament in Seven Card Stud at the 2012 WSOP and received around $ 190,000 as well as his second bracelet . He then finished third and second in the tournament series, which brought him prize money of almost $ 400,000. Due to another third place at the World Series of Poker Europe , which was played in Cannes in September 2012 , Monnette finished fourth in the WSOP Player of the Year 2012 ranking. At the 2016 WSOP , he again sat at several final tables and finished fifth in the race for the 2016 WSOP Player of the Year award . Monnette secured his third bracelet and prize money of more than $ 250,000 at the 2017 WSOP in the No Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw variant .

In total, he has earned more than $ 2.5 million playing poker in live tournaments.
