John Murphy (athlete)
John Murphy ( John Leonard Murphy; born March 23, 1895 in Portland , Oregon , † August 17, 1972 in Midland , Michigan ) was an American high jumper .
At the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920, he was fifth with 1.85 m.
In 1919 and 1920 he was US champion. Starting for the University of Notre Dame , he became NCAA champions in 1921 and 1922 . His personal best of 1.957 m he set on June 3, 1922 in Iowa City .
