John Peter Oleson

John Peter Oleson (* 1946 in Hackensack , USA ) is a Canadian - American classical archaeologist who works primarily in the field of underwater archeology .

Oleson studied Classical Archeology at Harvard University . From 1973 to 1976 he taught at Florida State University in Tallahassee . Since 1976 he has taught as Professor of Classics at the University of Victoria in Canada. In the 1970s and 1980s he took part in various archaeological dives in the Mediterranean together with the archaeologist Anna McCann Taggart . As an author, he has written several books about his discoveries in underwater archeology .

In 2010 he received the Pierre Chauveau Medal .
