John Pugh (politician, 1761)
John Pugh (born June 2, 1761 in Hilltown , Bucks County , Province of Pennsylvania , † July 13, 1842 in Doylestown , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1809 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Pugh attended public schools in his home country. In the 1770s he joined the American Revolution and took part in the War of Independence at times . He made it to the captain. He then worked in trade and agriculture. He also became a justice of the peace in his homeland. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . Between 1800 and 1804 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .
In the 1804 congressional election , Pugh was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Isaac Van Horne on March 4, 1805 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1809 . In 1808 he was no longer confirmed in his mandate. After serving in the US House of Representatives, John Pugh was a notary public in Bucks County from 1810 to 1821. He died in Doylestown on July 13, 1842.
