Jeremy Manasia
Jeremy Manasia (born March 28, 1971 in Staten Island , New York City ) is an American jazz pianist and music teacher.
Live and act
Jeremy Manasia began playing the piano at the age of seven; from 1985 he attended the LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts . During this time he performed with the New York All City Jazz Band and the McDonalds Tri-State Jazz Ensemble at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall , along with jazz musicians such as Red Rodney , Arnie Lawrence and Steve Turre . From 1989 he studied at the Manhattan School of Music , where he had lessons from Harold Danko and Gary Dial . During this time he worked on tour with Ryan Kisor's quartet . He continued his studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag , where he studied with Franz Elsan and obtained his master's degree. His debut album The Deep was created during his stay in Europe . In 1997 Manasia returned to New York and continued his studies with Chris Anderson and Harry Whitaker . In this phase he played in the New York jazz scene a. a. with Jimmy Cobb , Peter Bernstein , Javon Jackson , Wayne Escoffery , Joe Magnarelli , Nnenna Freelon and Diane Schuur . In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 1996 and 2011, including a. with Charles Owens , Greg Glassman / Stacy Dillard , David Gibson, John Boutte and Jane Monheit . He has been teaching at the Manhattan School of Music since 1997.
Awards
Masasia was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Competition , the Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and the American Pianists Association Jazz Piano Competition ; He also won the Presidential Scholars Award , several Student Music Awards from the Down Beat and three prizes from the Charles Mingus Competition for his educational work .
