John Rowland Rich

Sir John Rowland Rich CMG ( June 29, 1928 - May 13, 1995 ) was a British diplomat .

Rich received a Masters Degree from Sedbergh School at Clare College , Cambridge . He married Rosemary Ann Williams. They have a daughter and two sons.

From 1949 to 1951 he served in the British Army and then joined the Foreign Service, where he was employed in Addis Ababa from 1953 to 1956 . His next diplomatic posts were in Stockholm , Bahrain and Prague for three years each . From 1974 to 1978 Rich was counselor in the trade mission in Bonn , then from 1978 to 1980 consul general in Montreal . In the 1980s he returned to Europe in the diplomatic service and was Ambassador to Prague from August 1980 to 1985 , then Ambassador to Bern until 1988 .
