John Sandford
John Sandford (born February 23, 1944 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa ) is the pseudonym of the American writer John Roswell Camp .
biography
Camp suspended his history studies to do his military service in Korea and then resumed. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Journalism and worked from 1970 to 1978 for the Miami Herald Tribune. There he worked with Carl Hiaasen and Edna Buchanan, who are now also known as thriller authors .
In 1980 he changed jobs and began writing for St. Paul Pioneer Press. That same year he was first nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for a series of articles on Native American culture , and eventually won it in 1986 for a series of articles on the life of a modern farming family.
After nine years he ended his engagement with the Pioneer Press in 1989 and at the same time published his first two crime novels "Rules of Prey" (German title: "School of Death") and "The Fool's Run" ("Die Spur des Fren"). Since then, 19 more crime novels have appeared.
In 16 of his novels the main character is the police officer Lucas Davenport, who has to solve difficult cases in and around Minneapolis and St. Paul (the so-called Twin Cities ). The English titles of this series are remarkable, all of which contain the word “Prey” (German: “Sacrifice”, “Beute”) . There is also a loose series of four books in total about the thief LuEllen and the computer professional Kidd.
After a divorce, John Camp is remarried to his wife and lives near Minneapolis. He is now working on other novels with his son.
