John Schwartz

John Schwartz (born October 27, 1793 in Sunbury , Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , †  June 20, 1860 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1859 and 1860 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Schwartz received only a limited education. He then completed an apprenticeship with a dealer in Reading . After successfully completing this training, he became its partner. Schwartz took part in the British-American War of 1812 as a major in the American armed forces . Then he made iron goods. Politically, he only appeared as a member of the Democratic Party at the end of the 1850s . Within his party he belonged to the so-called Anti-Lecompton wing.

In the congressional election of 1858 Schwartz was elected in the eighth constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican William High Keim on March 4, 1859 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on June 20, 1860. His time as a congressman was marked by the events leading up to the civil war .
