John William Sutton Pringle
John William Sutton Pringle (born July 22, 1912 in Manchester , † November 2, 1982 in Oxford ) was a British zoologist . He dealt with the physiology of insects, mainly with the proprioceptors , the flight muscles of the insects and the song of the cicadas .
Live and act
Pringle first studied at King's College , Cambridge . There he received the Cambridge Natural Sciences Tripos degree . He was a demonstrator in zoology at Cambridge in 1937/38 and a fellow at King's College from 1938 to 1944 . After his military service as a radar scout he came back to Cambridge and worked as a lecturer in zoology and a fellow at the Peterhouse . In 1959 he was a reader for experimental cytology . In 1961 he was appointed to the Linacre Chair of Zoology at Oxford University .
Pringle was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1954. In 1969 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
