Johnny Duncan (singer)
Johnny Duncan (born October 5, 1938 in Dublin , Texas as John Richard Duncan , † August 14, 2006 in Fort Worth ) was an American country singer and a cousin of the musician Dan Seals .
Life
Duncan was born in Dublin , Texas . Before moving to Nashville , Tennessee , he attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth . He then spent several years, from 1959 to 1964, in Clovis , New Mexico .
In Franklin , Tennessee , he worked as a DJ and had his own breakfast show on a local television station. In the 1960s he had his first recording contract with Columbia Records . Between 1967 and 1970 none of his records made it into the top 20 of the charts. The single Sweet Country Woman reached number six in 1973. Between 1973 and 1979 Duncan had ten top 10 hits, including Thinkin 'Of A Rendezvous , It Couldn't Have Been Any Better, and She Can Put Her Shoes Under My Bed (Anytime) , which topped the country charts. In 1977 Duncan had a hit with his duet Come A Little Bit Closer with Janie Fricke .
Duncan last lived with his wife and five children in Fort Worth , where he died on August 14, 2006, at the age of 67, after a heart attack .
