Johol ( Chinese  柔 河 , Pinyin RóuHé ) is a city, a mukim (administrative unit) and a constituency (State Assembly Constituency) in the Kuala Pilah District , in the state of Negeri Sembilan of Malaysia . Johol is one of the historical "Nine States" that make up the state, namely: Gunong Pasir Inas , Jelebu , Jempol , Muar , Rembau , Sungei Ujong , Terrachi and Ulu . The Minangkabau culture is still present in many places today, in the architecture and the dialect of the Malay language.

geography

The main town is about halfway between Tampin and Kuala Pilah on Malaysia Federal Route 9 (Jalan Karak – Tampin, JKR 9), in the valley of Sungai Ponting and Anak Ayer Selimbah . To the south, a chain of hills closes the valley ( Bukit Champaral , 353  m ), where the Rizab Melayu Ulu Gemencheh protected area is also located.

Attractions

One of the oldest Shell petrol stations is in town. The gas station is located on Jalan Besar (Highway 9) and dates from the 1930s.

politics

Johol is still ruled by a prince ( Undang Luak von Johol). The current ruler is Datuk Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Setiawan Muhammad Abdullah (15th Undang). He is one of the four Undang involved in the election of the Yamtuan Besar by Negeri Sembilan; the other three come from Sungai Ujong (with the capital Seremban and Port Dickson ), Jelebu and Rembau .

Johol belongs to the parliamentary constituency of Kuala Pilah (Parlimen Malaysia) and also forms a constituency of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly .
