Jolly Joker is a television series that was co-produced between Germany , Austria , Italy and Luxembourg . On the German side, ARD participated in the production. Directed by Marco Serafini , 21 episodes were created between 1989 and 1991 with Stefan Fleming and Paul Hubschmid in the leading roles. The series is designed as a parody of James Bond and other adventure flicks.

The bon vivant Christian Borg is a jet set playboy as he is in the book - but always broke. So he usually gets into embarrassing situations, from which his uncle Arthur Brecht has to free him , mostly in the form of debt settlement. Arthur Brecht himself is a very rich millionaire, but very stingy. Therefore Christian von Brecht never gets any money even in emergency situations, although he almost always tries to pump him up.

Instead, Brecht sends his nephew around the globe - wherever Arthur Brecht has industrial operations. Should there be problems at one location, Christian travels on site and takes care of the affairs that mostly have to do with crooks, gangsters, terrorists and black market dealers.

He is always supported by Anette , Arthur Brecht's assistant. She is a genius of puzzles and equips Borg (similar to Q in the James Bond films) with all sorts of weapons and other gadgets that are supposed to help him in his missions.
