The Jomfruene ( Norwegian for virgins ) are a group of three islands overgrown with tussock grass and some bare cliff rocks off the coast of South Georgia . They are 1.5 km west-northwest of Cape Parjadin . The three islands are (from west to east) Margit Island , Elvina Island and Agnora Island .
The South Georgia Survey , when surveyed between 1951 and 1952, reported that an island named Three Point Island has long been known as Jomfruene among Norwegian whale and seal hunters . Further measurements between 1955 and 1956 showed that it was actually a group of at least three islands. The Norwegian name was accordingly transferred to the entire archipelago.
