Ion Belaustegui Ruano (born March 19, 1979 in San Sebastián , Spain ) is a Spanish handball player . He is 1.95 m tall and weighs 95 kg.

Belaustegui, who last played for the Spanish club SDC San Antonio (shirt number 9) and for the Spanish national team (shirt number 8), prefers to play in the left backcourt ; In the past, however, he often played in the right backcourt to get more bets.

Ion Belaustegui played his first league games in the Spanish ASOBAL league for FC Barcelona . With the Catalans he won the Spanish championship , the Copa del Rey de Balonmano , the Spanish Supercup, the EHF Champions League and the European Club Championship in 1997 and 1998, as well as the Spanish championship and the EHF Champions League in 1999 , but was the mostly reserve players only. In 1999 he went to BM Valladolid , but remained there unsuccessfully and in 2001 moved to local rivals Ademar León . In 2003 he went to the German handball league for HSV Hamburg . Here he at least won the DHB Supercup , but returned to Spain in 2005 and hired at BM Ciudad Real , where he won the Copa ASOBAL , the EHF Champions League and the European Club Championship in 2006 and the Spanish Championship , the Copa ASOBAL and the 2007 Club EM won. At Ciudad Real, however, he was only the third choice in the end, so that in the summer of 2007 he and his teammate Julio Fis were loaned to CB Ciudad de Logroño for a year . Ion Belaustegui has made over 60 international appearances for the Spanish national team. He won the silver at the 2006 European Handball Championship . At the handball world championship in Germany in 2007 , he was eliminated with Spain in the quarter-finals against Germany and ended up in a disappointing 7th place. At the 2008 Olympic Games , he won the bronze medal.
