Jonathan Guus Ambrose Johnson (born September 25, 1976 in Saba ) is a Dutch politician and has been zaghebber of the island of Saba, one of the special communities of the Netherlands in the Caribbean, since 2008 . The position of the zaghebbers is roughly comparable to that of the mayor of a municipality in the European Netherlands. It is the highest office in the island's executive branch .

biography

Johnson was born on September 25, 1976, the third child of Guy and Angela Johnson on Saba. He left the island in 1994 to study education in the United States at the University of Florida , which he completed in 1999 with a master's degree. He then returned to his homeland, where he initially held a teaching post at the local elementary school. In 2004 he was appointed director of the Saba Comprehensive School . On July 2, 2008, Frits Goedgedrag , governor of the then Netherlands Antilles appointed him the new gezaghebber Sabas. He succeeded Sydney Sorton , who had held the office between 1989 and 2008 for a total of eleven years. In July 2014, Johnson was re-elected for a second six-year term.

Johnson has been married to Rosalyn Hassel since 2012. So far, two children have emerged from the connection.
