Jonathan Kellerman

Jonathan Kellerman (born August 9, 1949 in New York , NY ) is an American child psychologist and novelist.

life and work

Jonathan Kellerman grew up in Los Angeles. He studied psychology at the University of Los Angeles ( UCLA ) and graduated with a BA with honors. During his studies he worked as a journalist and illustrator and received the Samuel Goldwyn Creative Writing Award for it . He received his PhD in Psychology from the University of Southern California in 1974 . There he still occasionally teaches pediatrics at the School of Medicine . He did his internship at Children's Hospital / USC School of Medicine, where he first worked as a child psychologist after completing his doctorate. There he later became the founding director of the Psychosocial Program, Division of Hematology-Oncology. Today Kellerman is one of the most renowned psychological advisors at the Los Angeles Superior Court .

Jonathan Kellerman has written numerous professional articles, three medical books and two self-illustrated children's books. For his first novel When the Bough Breaks (1985, German title: Blackout ) he received the Edgar Allan Poe Award and the Anthony Award (both in the category of best first novel ), two of the most important crime prizes in the USA . The novel became a bestseller in the United States and is the only Jonathan Kellerman novel that has been filmed by a television station (NBC) to date.

Since then, Kellerman has written a novel every year. The main characters in most of the novels are the child psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware and his friend, LAPD gay detective Milo Sturgis . The Israeli inspector Daniel Shavari investigates in The Butcher's Theater (English title: The Phantom of Jerusalem ). In the 1998 novel Billy Straight (English title: The Dead in Griffith Park ), the LAPD police officer Petra Connor is one of the main characters.

Jonathan Kellerman's novels have been translated into 24 languages.

Kellerman lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Faye Kellerman , who is herself a well-known crime novelist, and their four children. Two of their children, their son Jesse and their daughter Aliza, are also writers of novels and screenplays. In addition to his writing activities, he continues to work as a medical advisor. Jonathan is, like his wife, an Orthodox Jew.
