Jonckheere (now VDL Jonckheere ) is a Belgian manufacturer of coaches and buses .

history

In 1881 Henri Joncheere began building horse-drawn carriages in Beveren near Roeselare in the Belgian province of West Flanders . The first automobile was produced in 1902, and in 1922 Henri's son Joseph Jonckheere had the first bus body built. Up until the early 1930s, the manufacture of car bodies made up a significant proportion of production, after which the focus was on the construction of coaches and buses. The company became the Belgian market leader in this segment.

In the 1970s, Jonckheere launched its Bermuda range , which appeared in the UK in 1977 and was in production until 1982. In Germany, Jonckheere was almost exclusively used in buses of the Belgian army.

In Europe, Jonckheere introduced a high quality coach model. The SH series was initially available on the chassis of the rear-engined Volvo B12B. The demonstration object was 3.8 m high. The body was initially based on the Volvo B12M and later on the Volvo B9R.
