Jongilizwe College

The Jongilizwe College was a South African educational institution as an integral part of the policy of apartheid , had been built around politically compliant, male leaders from the family circles of the Xhosa educate -Chiefs and headmen. The college was one of a small group of similar educational institutions for other ethnic groups in South Africa.

The Jongilizwe College was in on 19 October 1960 Tsolo in today's local church Mhlontlo Local Municipality opened. The students came from among the traditional tribal leaders of the Xhosa. The school's territorial jurisdiction extended to the Transkei and Ciskei reservations , two later homelands that were later independent of the certificate . At the time of its opening, accommodation was available for 79 students. Standard VI was the formal entry requirement in the school education that had already been completed and the age of 15 had to be reached.

A course for Bantu administration (“Bantu administration”) based on the Junior Certificate (Middle Reife) was offered. This course contained basic educational objectives that focused on agriculture , general administration , law , accounting , business knowledge, and typing . The teaching objectives also included practical instruction on current issues for later duties as chief . In the course of the training, special attention was paid to the desired personal development and character formation .

Those who successfully passed this course could register for a diploma course in "Bantu Administration and Law".

Already in 1963 the educational offer at Jongilizwe College expanded . There was now a one-year course in special administration for 20 Matric owners every year. In addition to imparting theoretical teaching content, practical briefings were given in the offices of the Bantu Affairs Commissioners (German for example: "[white] Bantu Affairs -Administrators") in the fields of tax administration , registrations and administrative correspondence , birth and death registers, the jurisdiction and the administrative practice of the Bantu Authority System ( Transkeian Territorial Authority and Ciskeian Territorial Authority ).

reopening

On May 2, 2014, the now renovated complex of Jongilizwe College , which had fallen into disrepair after 20 years, was reopened in the presence of President Jacob Zuma . The state-run Jongilizwe Senior Secondary School provides schooling for boys and girls, the aim of which is to obtain a primary ( Junior Certificate ) and a secondary certificate ( Senior Certificate ) under the conditions of traditional affairs . For Principal of College Jongilizwe Nolitha Nohaji was appointed. The re-commissioning of a training facility at this location is a joint project of the national government agencies Department of Education and Department of Traditional Affairs .
