biography

Joo studied law at Yeungnam University and then worked as a judge for 19 years. In the course of the general election in South Korea in 2004 , he entered parliament for the first time. Under President Lee Myung-bak , he was appointed Minister for Special Affairs in September 2009 . He held this office until August 2010.

In the course of the political scandal of President Park Geun-hye and Choi Soon-sil , he left the Saenuri party together with Yoo Seong-min and other politicians and was involved in the founding of the Bareun party . A little later he returned to the largest opposition party in the country.

Joo's election victory in the 2020 parliamentary elections against the previous representative and former interior minister Kim Boo-kyum attracted a lot of attention. Since then, after the resignation of Hwang Kyo-ahn, Joo has been traded as a possible new party leader of the Mirae-tonghap party.

On May 8th he was elected as the new leader of his party in parliament.
