Jordan from Osnabrück

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jordan (us) von Osnabrück (* before 1237; † April 15 after 1283) was a cleric and author.

Life

Between 1251 and 1283 he was certified as a canon at the cathedral chapter of St. Peter in Osnabrück . He was referred to as a scholaster in 1254 and 1255, and in 1258 and 1259 as dean . From 1268 he is called a Magister.

In 1281 Jordanus von Osnabrück wrote a pamphlet with the title Super Romano imperio , which Alexander von Roes included in his memorial , through which it came to the Pope through Cardinal Giacomo Colonna, who died in 1318 . From there, numerous handwritten editions of the script spread to European libraries. Petrus de Andlo later took over text passages from her for his work De imperio germano .

As far as we know today, other writings in Latin that were previously ascribed to Jordan are from Roes.

Confusion of names

A “Magister Iordanus” wrote a treatise on the origin of the Bosau monastery , which presumably refers to Jordan von Quedlinburg .

Jordanus von Osnabrück was also a contemporary of the Jordanus Nemorarius and the Jordan of Saxony , so that there were occasional confusion of names in later centuries.
