Jorge Chagas (born December 10, 1957 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan journalist , historian and writer .

Chagas, who studied political science at the Universidad de la República , worked as a journalist for the weeklies Alternativa and Aquí, as well as the magazine Tres and the daily El Observador . At the radio station CX 28 Radio Imparcial , he was part of the team for the Vale por 7 show, responsible for the historical area .

Chagas has been a member of the Ruben D'Alba literature workshop since 1997 . His literary work extends, among other things, to works on the history of trade unions. His first novel, La Soledad del General , was published in 2001, followed in 2007 by Gloria y Tormento about the football player José Leandro Andrade . This novel was musically implemented in the following year by Comparsa Yambo Kenya and thus won the first prize of the carnival in its category. His texts were also used in various works such as Cuentos de Verano in 1995 , Pelota de Papel in 1998 , La sombra del agua in 2000 and El cuento uruguayo in 2002 .

Chagas has received several awards, including the National Literature Prize ( Premio Nacional de Literatura ) in 2003, 2009 and 2010 .
