José Barreto Martins

José Barreto Martins (born December 14, 1962 in Bobonaro , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese diplomat. From 2009 to 2013 he was Permanent Representative of East Timor to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

Career

Barreto holds degrees in theology and humanities and is a professor of basic education. In 1997 he was elected deputy advisor to the national party court of the UDT at a party congress in Perth .

Barreto was the first permanent representative of East Timor to the CPLP and the third to the CPLP in general, after Lauro Barbosa da Silva Moreira from Brazil (since August 2006) and Apollinaris Mendes de Carvalho from Guinea-Bissau (since October 2007). On January 7, 2009, Barreto was appointed by Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa . Barreto handed over his accreditation on January 13, 2009.

In 2013, Barreto Martins was replaced by Antonito de Araújo .
