José Emilio Amavisca Gárate (born June 17, 1971 in Laredo , Spain ) is a former Spanish football player .

Club career

Amavisca started his career with his hometown club SD Laredo. In the 1988/89 season he completed the Tercera División with his team in first place. He then moved to Real Valladolid and began his professional career. In 1991 he was loaned to UE Lleida in the second division for a year .

In 1994 he finally moved to Real Madrid and scored ten goals in his first season, so that he had a large share in the first championship after four years without a title. In the same year he was voted Footballer of the Year in Spain by both newspapers that award the titles . Gradually, however, his role in the team became less important, so that he moved to Racing Santander in January 1999 .

After three years of successful stint at Deportivo La Coruña , Amavisca ended his career after a season at Espanyol Barcelona in 2005.

National team career

Amavisca won the Olympic gold medal with the Spanish team in 1992 at the tournament in Barcelona .

For the Spanish national team he played 15 times and scored one goal. He took part in the European Championship in 1996 and was used three times during the tournament.
