José Gómez (athlete)

José Gómez ( José Gómez Cervantes; born March 19, 1956 ) is a retired Mexican long-distance runner .

At the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1978 he won bronze over 5000 m .

In 1979 he won the same distance at the Athletics Central American and Caribbean Championships and took silver at the Universiade .

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, he was eliminated over 10,000 m in the preliminary run.

In 1982 he finished eighth in the New York City Marathon . The following year he was sixth in the Rotterdam Marathon . Over 10,000 m he came at the World Athletics Championships in 1983 in Helsinki on the 16th place and won the Pan American Games in Caracas .

In 1984 he was twelfth in the Tokyo International Men's Marathon and failed at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles over 10,000 m in the first round.

In 1985 he was sixth and in 1986 ninth in the Chicago Marathon . In 1987 he was third in the Los Angeles Marathon and ninth in the Pittsburgh Marathon .
