José Luis Capón González (short: Capón , born February 6, 1948 in Madrid ; † March 29, 2020 ibid.) Was a Spanish football player .
Career
societies
After the youth teams of Real Madrid (Plus Ultra) and Atlético Madrid B (Reyfra), Capón came to the professional team of Atlético Madrid in 1970 . The defender was loaned to Burgos CF for one season (1971/72) and then returned. He was with the red-whites in the final of the 1973/74 European Cup against Bayern Munich . Atlético led after a goal in the 114th minute in extra time and were on the verge of victory before Georg Schwarzenbeck equalized in the 120th minute . They lost the replay with 0: 4. Since FC Bayern renounced the 1974 World Cup , Atlético Madrid took part in the final against CA Independiente from Argentina . After narrowly missing out on the European Cup, Capón and his team celebrated winning the Intercontinental Cup after the first and second leg. Capón was twice Spanish football champion with Atlético ( 1972/73 and 1976/77 ). In addition, there was the victory in the Copa del Rey 1975/76 . In 1980 he left Madrid and was adopted with a farewell game . He let his career at FC Elche end in the 1980/81 season.
National team
Capón played six games for the Spanish national soccer team of amateurs from 1969 to 1972. In 1971 he was called up for a game in the Spanish U23 national football team. For the Spanish national soccer team , he made 13 games and scored a goal against Denmark on October 12, 1975 in qualifying for the 1976 European Football Championship .

José Luis Capón died on March 29, 2020 at the age of 72 in his hometown. Atlético Madrid announced this on social media . He died during the COVID-19 pandemic of the consequences of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. In memory of him, the flags at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium were raised at half-mast for 24 hours .
