José Manuel Pinto Colorado (born November 8, 1975 in El Puerto de Santa María ) is a former Spanish football player . The goalkeeper played for FC Barcelona from 2008 to 2014 .
Career
José Manuel Pinto was the crowd favorite of the Spanish football club Celta de Vigo for ten years . Since joining the second team at Betis Sevilla in 1998, he has worked his way up to become one of the most renowned goalkeepers in Spain. However, he only became the club's undisputed goalkeeper from the 2004/05 season. In the 2005/06 season , when Vigo qualified for the UEFA Cup , he won the Trofeo Zamora , the title for the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the Primera División . Nevertheless, he could not prevent the relegation of the team from Celta de Vigo in the following season, with which he then rose again and again.
During the second half of the 2007/08 season , Pinto was loaned to FC Barcelona for € 500,000 after the Catalans' second goalkeeper Albert Jorquera tore a cruciate ligament during a game with the selection of Catalonia . He conceded eight goals in three games for Barcelona. Nonetheless, on May 30, 2008, Barcelona exercised their option to purchase the player and gave him a one-year contract with an option to renew.
Since then, Pinto has regularly guarded the goal of FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey , the Spanish Cup, instead of regular goalkeeper Víctor Valdés . In December 2012, Pinto extended his contract until 2014.
