José Martínez (lawyer)

José Martínez y Soria (* 1968 ) is a German lawyer, professor of agricultural law and public law, managing director of the Institute for Agricultural Law, Vice Chairman of the German Society for Agricultural Law and Vice President of the Comité Européen de Droit Rural (CEDR).

Life

Martínez attended the Jacob-Grimm-Schule in Kassel, where he obtained the general university entrance qualification in 1987. At the same time he obtained the Spanish university entrance qualification at a correspondence school in Madrid. From 1987 to 1992 he studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia . In 1992 he completed his studies with the first state examination in law. From 1993 to 1996 he was a scholarship holder of the Cusanuswerk and received his doctorate in 1995 at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . The doctoral thesis "The guarantee of legal protection against public violence in Spain" was rated summa cum laude and awarded the "Thesis Prize 1996" of the European Group of Public Law. From 1995 to 1997 Martinez completed the legal clerkship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Celle . Subsequently, from 1997 to 2003 he was a research assistant at the Institute for International Law and European Law at the University of Göttingen and from 1999 to 2006 lecturer for European law at the University of Kassel Martínez completed his habilitation at the Law Faculty of the Georg-August University of Göttingen on the subject of “The law of European spatial planning ". In 2004 he was awarded the license to teach public law, European law and comparative law.

From 2004 to 2011 he was a research assistant at the Institute for International Law and European Law at the University of Göttingen. From 2004 to 2005 he held a visiting professorship at the Technical University of Dresden and was a visiting professor at the University of Nanjing (China) in 2006 and at the University of Santo Tomás in Bogotá in 2007. Between 2007 and 2009, he was deputy professor at the universities of Konstanz , Frankfurt am Main and Potsdam . From 2009 to 2010 he was acting managing director of the Göttingen Institute for Agricultural Law and in 2012 was appointed to an endowed professorship for agricultural law and public law at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Martinez has been the Managing Director of the Institute for Agricultural Law since then . He is also director of the Institute for Public Law (Department for Foreign Public Law and Comparative Law) and a member of the Sino-German Institute for Law. From 2015 to 2018 he was the Dean of Studies at the Law Faculty in Göttingen.

Since 2019 he has been visiting professor at the University of Macerata , Italy and "Distinguished Research Professor" at the Guangdong University for Foreign Languages ​​and Foreign Trade, Guangzhou (PR China).
