José Augusto Oliveira de Sousa (born February 25, 1974 in Azambuja ) is a Portuguese darts player .
Career
José de Sousa, who has been playing darts since 1993, dominates this sport in his home country. is a very experienced player who has dominated the darts scene in his home country for decades. He played his first major tournament at the WDF World Cup in 2012 . As a Southwest European qualifier, he took part in the PDC World Darts Championship in 2012 , where he was defeated by the South African Devon Petersen in the preliminary round . In 2019 he again succeeded in qualifying for the PDC World Darts Championship despite one match darts , this time he failed in round 1 to Michael Barnard . At the Q-School 2019 in Hildesheim , he secured a tour ticket via the ranking list. De Sousa performed well on the Tour in his freshman year and a Players Championship Final where he lost to James Wade. In September 2019 he became the first Portuguese to win a Players Championship. Three weeks later he was able to repeat this success from Barnsley . In his third World Cup participation, he failed again by a 3-0 defeat against Damon Heta from Australia.
With the prize money he won, de Sousa qualified for the World Matchplay 2020 , where he led against the reigning world champion Peter Wright , but he turned the game and decided in his favor.
