José Luis Villanueva (born March 19, 1913 in Manila , † November 11, 1983 in Quezon City ) was a Filipino boxer .
biography
José Villanueva competed in bantamweight at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . After he had a bye in the round of 16, he qualified for the semi-finals with his victory in the quarter-finals over Akira Nakao from Japan . There he was defeated by the Canadian Horace Gwynne on points. In the battle for bronze, his opponent Joseph Lang from the United States did not compete, which is why he received the bronze medal without a fight.
After his boxing career, he became a boxing trainer and trained, among other things, Flash Elorde . In 1983 Villanueva died of a heart attack.
His son Anthony Villanueva also became a boxer and won a silver medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo .
