Josef Aicher (lawyer)

Josef Aicher (born November 14, 1947 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian lawyer , member of several academic academies and emeritus professor at the University of Vienna and honorary professor at the University of Salzburg . His research areas include large areas of European, private, civil and corporate law, as well as public law.

Life

Aicher studied law in Salzburg until 1970 . After completing his habilitation and teaching at the University of Salzburg (commercial and economic law, civil law and general legal theory), he became professor for civil law at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz in 1975 . After a further professorship in Linz , which he took up in 1978, Aicher became professor at the University of Vienna at the Institute for Commercial and Business Law in 1982. He continued his research and teaching there to this day. At the time of his retirement in 2016, Aicher was the head of the institute.

Services and functions

Aicher has been a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2001 . Other features include and included his roles as Deputy Chairman of the Takeover Board, as chairman of the Federal Procurement Review Commission at the Federal Procurement Office and the Competition Commission, as well as a visiting professor at the Department for European Integration of the Danube University Krems , where he, as a member of the Executive Board in setting up the training EUROJUS and EURAS was significantly involved. He was also chairman of the Arbitration Panel for In Rem restitution at the General Settlement Fund of the Republic of Austria and as an expert on parliamentary committees of inquiry. He also acts as a co-editor and author of numerous legal journals, textbooks, expert reports and festschriften. His expert work received public attention , particularly in the context of the Eurofighter affair . On the occasion of Aicher's 65th birthday, a commemorative publication was published with the collaboration of fifty respected Austrian and foreign lawyers from science and practice.
