Josef Anton Stüttler

Josef A. Stüttler (born March 14, 1931 in Tschagguns , Montafon , Austria ; † February 25, 2009 there ) was an Austrian social scientist .

Life

Josef Anton Stüttler studied philosophy, psychology, sociology and history in Munich, Tullaby (Ireland) and Innsbruck. In 1958 he received his doctorate in philosophy with a dissertation under Emerich Coreth on the problem of God in Schelling's late work. From 1960 to 1964 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Christian Philosophy at the University of Innsbruck with Emerich Coreth (philosophy) and the sociologist Johannes Schasching , from 1964 to 1965 assistant to Heinrich Kipp at the Chair of Legal and Social Philosophy, International Law. During his assistantship, he studied political and political economics in parallel.

From 1966 to 1970 Stüttler was a research assistant and head of the study conferences at the social institute Kommende Dortmund of the Paderborn Archdiocese . From 1970 to 1972 he was a consultant for social policy at the German Kolping Society and a research assistant in the Federal and General Secretariat. In 1972 he was offered a professorship at the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia , Cologne department, as professor for philosophy, especially social philosophy, and from 1980 for social philosophy, political science including social policy in the social affairs department. In 1996 he retired .

Stüttler was an advisor to the Kolping Society of Germany from 1972 to 1996. In 1976 he was significantly involved in the creation of the "Paderborn Program" of the Kolping Society and has thus laid the political and socio-political framework of the Kolping Society to this day.

His scientific interest was the communication, research and topicality of Christian social doctrine, its anthropological and social-philosophical foundations and its socio-political consequences.

He has published numerous publications on Catholic social teaching and Christian social teaching.

Stüttler died after a long and serious illness.
