Josef Božek
Josef Božek (born February 28, 1782 in Biery , Austrian Silesia , † October 21, 1835 in Prague ) was the inventor and designer primarily of steam-powered vehicles. In literature he was referred to as Silesian , Polish , Czech, and Polish-Czech Stephenson .
Life
The son of a miller in a Polish-Silesian or water-Polish village near Bielitz originally wanted to become a professor of mechanics after he was already building machines while attending high school in Cieszyn and Brno . First he went to Brno and studied mathematics and mechanics at the Protestant school under Christian Karl André. In 1804 he went to Prague, tried to study, but gave up for financial reasons and became a mechanic.
For Stavovský polytechnický ústav in Prague he made a number of models and tools for use, and after completing his training as a watchmaker , he also became a specialist in this field.
