Josef Dilger

Josef Dilger (born November 10, 1899 in Neuhausen ; † June 8, 1972 in Reinhartshausen / Bobingen) was a German painter, graphic artist, musician and teacher.

Life

Josef Dilger's father was a teacher. He grew up as the oldest of six siblings in Hopferbach im Allgäu and attended the teachers' seminar in Lauingen . In the First World War he took part as a war volunteer and then worked as a substitute teacher in Augsburg . There he took cello lessons at the Municipal Conservatory and took private drawing and painting lessons.

After marrying his wife Emma geb. Ahr's family moved to Reinhartshausen in 1927 . From the beginning of the war in 1939, Dilger served in a state rifle battalion in Augsburg. In 1945 he was released from captivity; In 1948 Josef Dilger was able to resume school service.

Dilger participated regularly in art exhibitions in Augsburg and Munich . His preferred techniques were woodcut and etching ; but he also created watercolors and experimented with new materials and techniques.

Josef Dilger Foundation

The Josef Dilger Foundation was founded on the initiative of Ludwig Wiedemann, the daughters of Josef Dilger, Ruth Ahl, Karin Dilger and Sibylle Krahforst in cooperation with the cultural office of the city of Bobingen in 2000. The purpose of the public foundation under civil law is to establish and operate a Josef Dilger art and culture center in the Reinhartshausen district . The driving force behind this was the then Head of the City of Bobingen's Department of Culture and today's Culture Prize Winner Reinhold Lenski.
