Josef Goldschmidt

Josef Goldschmidt ( Hebrew יוסף גולדשמידט, * 1907 in Frankfurt am Main ; † July 25, 1981 in Israel ) was an Israeli politician. He was a member of the national religious party ( Mafdal ), a member of the 7th Knesset and from 1969 to 1970 deputy minister for internal affairs .

Life

Josef Goldschmidt attended a yeshiva and then studied biology, chemistry and geography to become a teacher in Frankfurt am Main , Munich and London . In 1935 Goldschmidt immigrated to Palestine , where he worked as a teacher. From 1942 to 1948 he worked as a school inspector for the Jewish schools in Palestine, after 1948 he became inspector for the school system in Israel that was established by the Mizrachi movement. Then Goldschmidt was deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Culture from 1952 to 1953 and took over the management of the department for religious education from 1953 to 1968.

In the 1969 elections to the 7th Knesset, Goldschmidt ran for the National Religious Party . Although he did not win a seat, he moved up on December 15, 1969 to replace Josef Burg , who had given up his seat.

From December 22, 1969 to July 16, 1970 and from July 19, 1970 to September 1, 1970 he was Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs. In the elections to the 8th Knesset on December 31, 1973, he was not re-elected.

In 1973 Goldschmidt ran successfully for the city council of Jerusalem and in 1974 became deputy mayor.

Since 1973 he was married to the librarian Ruth P. Lehmann .
