Josef Haberfelner

Josef Haberfelner (born July 2, 1830 in Lunz am See ; † February 28, 1913 there ) was an Austrian mine manager who was also active in the fields of geology , mineralogy and entomology .

Life

Haberfelner first worked as a hammer smith in Lunz, later as a miner in Eisenerz and an official of the wheel works in Vordernberg , Eisenerz and Leoben . From 1872 to 1902 he was a mountain administrator (operations manager) in the coal mine in Lunz.

Since 1859 he has been teaching mineralogy and geology on an interim basis at the Steigerschule in Leoben. In 1864 he was appointed correspondent of the Imperial and Royal Geological Institute for his services to the geology of the Erzberg .

Haberfelner collected fossils in the Lunz strata and in the Grauwackenzone . Among them were the first Silurian - Devonian orthocers and trilobites near iron ore. He also collected fossil plants.

Haberfelner is the grandfather of the geologist Erich Haberfelner (1902–1962).
