Josef Herold

Josef Herold (born November 11, 1861 in Skryl , Bohemia , † March 5, 1932 in Brüx ) was an Austro-Czech lawyer and politician . From 1905 to 1918 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Austrian Imperial Council. Between 1918 and 1919 he was a member of the Provisional National Assembly .

Life

After primary school, Herold attended high school in Brüx and Komotau and subsequently graduated from the German university in Prague. He studied law and obtained a doctorate in law. jur. During his studies he became a member of the Albia Prague fraternity (today the Sudetia fraternity in Munich). After his time as a one-year volunteer with the rank of lieutenant of the reserve, Herold worked as a legal intern in Eger, then he was a trainee in Mies, Kaaden and Brüx. In 1893 he founded his own law firm in Brüx.

He was politically active as a city councilor in Brüx and was involved as a member of the federal management of the "Federation of Germans in Bohemia" and from 1894 as a member of the arbitration tribunal of the "German School Association". He was elected to the Bohemian Landtag in 1905 and became a member of the Reichstag that same year. In 1907 and 1911 he ran for the German Radical Party in the electoral district of Bohemia 84 and prevailed with around 63 percent of the votes in the first ballot. Between 1910 and 1918 he also took over the office of mayor in Brüx. As a member of numerous national associations and leader of the German radicals in Bohemia, Herold was arrested in 1918 and expelled from the country. He lived in Dresden, received an amnesty and subsequently withdrew from politics.
