Josef Kern (art historian)

Josef Kern (born June 15, 1951 in Würzburg ) is a German art historian .

Life

After graduating from the Roentgen Gymnasium in Würzburg , Kern studied art history , folklore and archeology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . He received his doctorate in 1986 with a thesis on impressionism in Wilhelminian Germany .

Kern worked for many years as a lecturer at the Universities of Würzburg and Regensburg as well as at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt . He has been an honorary professor since 2003 .

Kern published books and essays mainly on topics of art and culture in the 19th and 20th centuries. He is also president of the " Mainfranken Press Club ". His lectures as part of senior studies at the Würzburg University are particularly popular .
