Josef Krieger (painter)
Josef Krieger (born March 10, 1848 in Salzburg , † March 10, 1914 in Zurich ) was an Austrian panorama painter.
After training at the art academy in Vienna , Krieger lived and worked in northern Germany for several years. In 1878 he successfully took part in the great Lübeck art exhibition.
Later, together with Josef Block and Johann Adalbert Heine, he became an assistant to the Munich painter Bruno Piglhein and helped him complete his panoramic painting of the Crucifixion of Christ . Krieger was familiar with such work, as he had previously worked on Louis Braun's panorama picture Battle of Weissenburg .
In 1887, Krieger went on an extensive study trip through Norway . As a result of this trip, the so-called Berliner Nordlandpanorama emerged from 1888 in Berlin .
A few years later, Krieger went to the painter Gebhard Fugel's studio as an assistant and played a key role in realizing his panorama of the Crucifixion of Christ (for Altötting ).
Josef Krieger died on his 66th birthday in Zurich.
