Josef Maria Boehm
Josef Maria Boehm (born August 7, 1908 in Unterhimmel , † December 31, 1973 in Huntsville (Alabama) ) was an Austro-German engineer and NASA rocket expert.
Life
Josef Boehm was born in 1908 in what is now Austria , but he comes from a north Bohemian family and grew up in Teplitz-Schönau and Brüx . After studying mechanical engineering at the TH Dresden , he worked in rocket research, since 1939 in Peenemünde together with Helmut Hölzer . In 1945 he came to the USA with Wernher von Braun , where he was one of the pioneers of space travel as part of NASA and participated in research and experiments that ultimately led to the Apollo Skylab program . He worked in Fort Bliss , Texas, White Sands, and then Huntsville . From 1960 he was head of the leadership and control department in the electromechanical development department at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center . In obituaries in the USA he is recognized as an outstanding technician. He is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville.
