Josef Moser (entomologist)

Josef Moser (born March 2, 1861 in Ried im Innkreis , † March 28, 1944 in Zell near Zellhof ) was an Austrian priest and entomologist .

Life

After working as a cooperator in Gutau and Kreuzen , Moser was pastor and dean in Zell near Zellhof from 1891 to 1935 , where he lived until his death.

entomologist

As a seminary student, Moser joined the Natural History Association, and in 1901 he joined the Upper Austrian Museum Association. In his spare time he built up a collection of 35,310 beetles and 13,269 butterflies, "which was the largest of its kind in the whole country and contained rare pieces from all five parts of the world" . After his death, the collection, consisting of 250 shops, and Moser's extensive specialist library were acquired by the Upper Austrian State Museum.

In addition to his entomological work, Moser also collected other animals for the museum association.
