Josef Pichler (theologian)

Josef Pichler (* 1967 in Freistadt ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

From 1985 to 1990 Pichler studied Catholic theology and religious education at the PTH St. Pölten and the PTH Benediktbeuern (1987/1988). From 1990 to 1992 he was a pastoral assistant in Gars am Kamp and did an internship at the Federal Commercial Academy and Federal Commercial School St. Pölten. In June 1992 he became a university assistant at the Institute for New Testament Biblical Studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Graz .

After the dissertation (awarded the Karl Rahner Prize for Theological Research) in 1996 on the subject of Paul Reception and Paul Image in Acts 13: 16–52 and the habilitation in 2003 at the Karl Franzens University Graz for the subject New Testament Biblical Studies with the work St. John Passion and synoptic , Josef Pichler has been teaching since 2003 as associate professor for New Testament biblical studies at the Catholic-Theological Faculty in Graz.

Since 2006 he has been teaching as professor for New Testament biblical studies at the PTH St. Pölten . From the winter semester 2008/2009 to the winter semester 2009/2010 he represented the chair for New Testament biblical studies in Augsburg . From 2014 to 2016 he led the FWF project Biblical Narratology and Subject-Oriented Biblical Didactics together with Wolfgang Weirer .

His main research interests are the passion narratives, the Lukan work, the reception of Paul and the Gospel of John.
