Josef Pohl
Josef Pohl (born February 12, 1825 in Vienna , † March 21, 1900 in Vienna) was an Austrian chemist .
Life
The son of the botanist Johann Emanuel Pohl studied at the University of Vienna. From 1846 he worked as an assistant at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna. In 1856 he became a professor at the military administration school. In 1866 he moved to the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna as professor for chemical, technological organic substances. In his work he was very versatile and practical. He was early active in the field of photography (1840 discovery of the atmosphere of daguerrotype plates) and in 1858 gave lectures on photography, especially microphotography.
