Josef Rainer von Harbach
Josef Bernhard Xaver Ritter von Rainer zu Harbach (born February 28, 1804 in Vienna , † January 13, 1870 in Zettling ) was an Austrian landowner and lay composer . He composed the national anthem of Carinthia , the Carinthian Heimatlied .
Life
Josef Rainer von Harbach studied at the University of Vienna Jus . Without having finished his studies, he moved to Wolfsberg in Carinthia to work in agriculture. In 1835 he set to music the poem Des Kärntners Vaterland, written by Johann Thaurer von Gallenstein in 1811 at Waldenstein Castle . His work subsequently achieved great popularity in Carinthia as Dort where Tirol borders Salzburg and was finally declared officially the national anthem in 1911.
In 1840 Josef Rainer von Harbach married Maria Hackhofer from Wolfsberg. From 1835 to 1846 he was the owner of the Groß Reideben estate in the southeast of Wolfsberg. He then lived at the Tofferlhof in Zettling until his death in 1870 .
