Josef Schuster (born July 26, 1873 in Vienna-Heiligenstadt , † February 8, 1945 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter .

He was the son of a railway official and painter and brother of the painter Karl Maria Schuster . After a year, Josef Schuster studied private lessons from 1895 to 1897 as a guest, then until 1904 as a regular student at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl and Kazimierz Pochwalski . During his studies, Schuster received the Special School Prize in 1901 and the Rosenbaum Prize in 1902.

As a freelance artist, Schuster mainly dealt with still life painting in the style of old Viennese masters.

During the First World War he was a soldier from 1915 to 1918. In 1933 Schuster became a member of the cooperative of the visual artists Vienna ( Künstlerhaus ) and joined the conservative "Gruppe Gsur".

In 1945 Schuster fell victim to an air raid .
